How Many Stair Spindles do I need?

Posted on Mon December 10th 2018 by James Speke

Stair Spindles are one of the most important parts of any Staircase. As well as providing the rigid framework for your handrail to fit securely to your base rail – stair spindles are also a key part of the aesthetics of your staircase.

At UK Stairparts, we recommend that for every step on your staircase – you have two spindles. The easy way to calculate this, is to count the number of stairs (treads) you have them multiply that number by two. Once you have this number, subtract two from the total figure – to accommodate the newel posts at the top and bottom of your staircase.

If dealing with landing spaces on your stairs, try & create a gap of 80mm between the spindles. Measure the space properly, and also consider the width of the spindles too. Using these figures as rough guides, you should have more than enough information to space the spindles correctly.

To buy the best possible Spindles for your staircase, just browse our full range online. We have spindles available in a wide range of timber choices, to suit any style of staircase – and all are available in a wide range of sizes.

If you have any questions about the range, please do just get in touch and we will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
